Oliver Hazard Perry naval letters, 1813.

This collection consists of two contemporary copies of letters written by Naval Commander Oliver Hazard Perry to General William Henry Harrison during the War of 1812. The September 10, 1813, letter describes the state of Perry's naval engagement: "We have met the enemy and they are ours." The September 11, 1813, letter contains a request for a prisoner guard.
